“Former
County Commissioner Officially Files to Run For City
Seat”
Grand Rapids, Mich., April 10, 2007-Tom
Postmus, a life-long resident of the West Side and
former County Commissioner announced today that he
has filed his petitions to run for 1st
Ward City Commissioner. Postmus, wants to take his 8
years of County government experience and put it to
work for the residents of the 1st Ward.
“My eight years serving as a County Commissioner
will better allow me to represent the residents of
the 1st Ward.” said Postmus. “I have
developed relationships on the local, state and
federal level that will be important to ensure we
receive much needed funding for Grand Rapids.”
Postmus’s two main concerns affected by the City’s
budget deficits are cuts to our levels of staffing
in police and fire, which are lower than they were
pre 9/11 and to our parks and recreation budget. “It
is vital in order to maintain a safe and healthy
city that we provide our first responders with the
appropriate staff and dollars” says Postmus. “Parks
and pools also help keep our community vibrant. I
feel that our families deserve to have our parks and
pools kept open. They pay tax dollars for these
services and I will fight to make sure they are
available to them.”
Tom and his wife Karen have lived in the 1st
ward 61 years; has 5 married children and 17 grand
children. He is an active member of Westview
Christian Reform Church, West Grand Neighborhood
Association, former board member for West-YMCA,
member of the John Ball Zoo advisory board, former
member of the West Grand Business Association and
for the past 4 years has been treasurer for Senior
Meals on Wheels.
